The United Nations Conference on Sustainable
Development (UNCSD) is being organized a General Assembly
Resolution. The Conference will take place in Brazil on 20-22 June
2012 to mark the 20th anniversary of the 1992 United Nations
Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED), in Rio de
Janeiro, and the 10th anniversary of the 2002 World Summit on
Sustainable Development (WSSD) in Johannesburg. It is envisaged as a
Conference at the highest possible level, including Heads of State
and Government or other representatives. The Conference will result
in a focused political document.
Objective of the Conference
The objective of the Conference is to secure renewed political
commitment for sustainable development, assess the progress to date
and the remaining gaps in the implementation of the outcomes of the
major summits on sustainable development, and address new and
emerging challenges
Getting Involved
Member states, international organizations and major groups can share ideas, by providing technical contributions and inputs as appropriate, to the Secretary-General's report on the objective and themes of the Conference.
Stakeholders can also act locally by organizing events, writing to parliamentarians and ministries that shape national positions related to Rio+20. They are invited to share the proposals and outcomes of these events and initiatives with the Secretariat at: uncsd2012@un.org
Anyone from the general public can share advice,
suggestions, opinions related to Rio+20 directly with the
Secretariat at uncsd2012@un.org
